Kraus-Anderson Insurance Client
Profile: Climate Makers
As president of the mechanical and temperature control firm Climate
Makers Incorporated (CMI), Lori Bauer knows the importance of control
ling the numbers. Since signing on with COMPTROL, her company has
dialed down its workers compensation premiums 40 percent.
COMPTROL, a division of Kraus Anderson Insurance, works with contractors and manufacturers to improve their experience
modification ratings (EMR), the measurement of loss experience
that drives workers comp premiums up or down.
Within the first nine months of working with CMI, COMPTROL
reduced the client's EMR by 15 points by spotting and correcting errors
on the company's rating. In just three years, the company's rating has
been reduced 40 points, from 1.22 to today's .82. In addition to a 40
percent reduction in annual premiums adjusted for market conditions,
Bauer now enjoys the competitive advantage of paying 18 percent less in
annual workers comp premiums over her average competitor.
Moreover, COMPTROL's web-based software streamlines workers compensation
management for Bauer, without adding to her workload.
Bauer calls the COMPTROL process "..the best workers compensation
management process I've seen for companies like ours."
"COMPTROL's process has made us more competitive in our core competencies, assisted
us in becoming a preferred contractor at the University of Minnesota and introduced us to
other COMPTROL members who are high level, like-minded companies we would like to
work with in the future;' Bauer said.
COMPTROL clients, on average, see a first-year reduction in their EMR and annual premium
costs of 15.2 percent. The average performer reduces their EMR by 35.3 percent over three
years. For more information, email
